Following the success of the pre-event Revival fundraising event and the main event – Mirabel Science Fair, on May 21, ASO had a trip to Sao Mai Center, located in a small alley on Hoang Dao Thuy Street, Thanh Xuan District, a small home for children with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities.
Evergreen – Journey to bring happiness to children at Sao Mai Center
Each of us is lucky to be born with normal, healthy development, but everywhere out there are always children who are not so lucky. With the desire to interact, understand and bring more love and connection to the children, we organized the post-event Evergreen. The name carries the meaning of happiness and love that is “forever green” like the green color of ivy, symbolizing hope and vitality.
With all the enthusiasm, love and meaningful gifts, ASO organized and presented to the children through interesting games, experiments and experiences. The singing voices, the surprised “Oh” sounds, the bright smiles that day, it will become beautiful, memorable moments for the children, hoping that they will keep the faith, always smile in the face of the difficult life ahead.
Program Launch
In this volunteer activity, I participated in the preparation stage and raised funds with my classmates to buy gifts for the children. Before the trip, we divided the work together, some of us prepared the supplies, some took care of the logistics, and I helped plan and prepare the performance. I felt very excited, because this was not only an opportunity for me to experience collective work but also an opportunity for me to contribute a small part of myself to meaningful activities for the community. Each gift was carefully prepared, each performance was carefully rehearsed, all of which expressed our hearts to the less fortunate children.
The charity event took place that morning, we left at 8am. When we arrived, my friends and I quickly arranged the gifts, prepared a small stage to organize a performance for the children. The atmosphere was very bustling, laughter echoed throughout the yard. I joined the group to perform a performance, and it was great to see the children attentively watching, clapping to the beat. One memory that I will always remember is that after the performance ended, I was able to take pictures with the children. The innocent, pure smiles on their faces made me feel a simple but truly warm joy. That day, we gave enough gifts to all the children, which made everyone very satisfied. Unfortunately, time passed too quickly, and I didn’t have time to talk more with the children. After participating in the charity activity, I felt truly grateful and happy. Previously, I only heard about activities like this from teachers or on the news, but when I experienced it directly, I understood its meaning. Being able to contribute a small part to bring joy to others makes me feel more mature and more caring for the community. I learned that happiness does not only come from receiving something, but also from sharing and giving. This activity has left me with many beautiful memories and motivated me to continue participating in other volunteer programs in the future.
