MEMORABLE VOLUNTEER TRIP IN HUU LUNG- LANG SON

In September 2024, I had an opportunity to take part in a meaning trip in Huu Lam commune, Loc Binh district, Lang Son province with  “Chung tay vì sức khỏe cộng đồng Việt Nam” group. This is the experience that not only helps me to absorb more new things but also leaves deep and unforgettable emotions in my heart.

A Journey of Giving”Joining Hands for Vietnamese Community Health”

My journey with the “Joining Hands for Vietnamese Community Health”began with a random chat with my mom. A friend of hers, who works at a hospital, shared information about a volunteer trip. Knowing my passion for community work and helping others, my mom suggested I look into it. At the same time  , I also saw a news article about the program and noticed a lot of people had already signed up. Without hesitation, I decided to register, hoping to contribute even a small part of my effort to help those in need.

In remote areas like Lang Son, access to modern medical services is still a luxury for many people. Therefore, I hope to contribute to support people even in the smallest way in medical examination, treatment and medicine distribution.

Memorable volunteer activities

The trip lasted 3 days with many continuous and meaningful activities. We were present at Huu Lam commune early in the morning to prepare for the gift distribution and free medical examination.

I was assigned to distribute gifts, give medicine, carry chairs and guide the elderly and children to their seats. It sounds simple, but when I witnessed the number of people coming to receive gifts and medical examination, I understood that this job requires agility, dedication and great responsibility.

The gifts we gave to the people all came from sponsors. Each gift included essential necessities such as rice, cooking oil, instant noodles, milk, warm clothes, etc. Although not too big, for the people here, it was a warmth and practical care.

At Huu Lam primary school, we set up a small stage so that we could hand out gifts to disadvantaged students who came to receive them. I was in charge of carrying chairs, assisting in arranging seats for parents and students, and assisting the MC in the coordination process. Looking at the innocent, eager faces and the happy eyes when receiving gifts, I felt that all my hard work was worth it.

After the gift-giving session at the school, we moved to the commune health station, where the free medical examination and medicine distribution activities took place for the people. The doctors and nurses in the group worked continuously without rest, and I assisted in distributing medicine to the patients who had just finished the examination. At the same time, I also instructed them on how to take medicine properly according to the doctor’s prescription. The elderly walked a long distance just to be examined, there were shy children sitting in their mothers’ arms,… Those images made me appreciate the opportunity to participate in this program even more.

Feelings After the Trip

This trip to Lang Son left me with many emotions: tiredness, joy, emotion, and above all, happiness when living in sharing. I realize that not everyone is lucky enough to live in a comfortable and convenient environment. But with just a small action, a little time and sincere care, we can bring good things to others. I feel grateful for having had the opportunity to experience, learn and contribute to spreading love.
